BREAKING: Several explosions rocked the Green Energy Products facility in the town of Sedgwick- LIVE STREAM
WICHITA, Kansas — A fire and several explosions tore through the Green Energy Products facility in the town of Sedgwick around 8:15 a.m. Tuesday morning.
The plant is located in the 200 block of Industrial Drive.
Flames and thick black smoke were seen shooting several feet into the air. It took crews nearly three hours to contain the fire.
Fire crews say corn oil is burning inside. They are working to keep tanks near the fire cool.
“They are doing a very good job. These are scary. I can tell you I am still nervous until these fires are out. You never know of the unknown,” said Gary Curmode, Sedgwick County Fire Chief.
Nearly 30 firefighters from the city of Halstead, Harvey and Sedgwick counties are on the scene battling the fire.
Trucks carrying foam from McConnell Air Force Base are helping battle the blaze.
There were a dozen people inside an office at the time the fire started. All of them managed to make it out.
