The intention was not to worship idols such as Baal and etc. It was to go within self and communicate to God within. And to reflect love and suffer well... Today it's just as much of an Idol religion as Catholics are to Jesus on the Cross. All in the name of money and idol worship. You can not be a true servant to God without being a mystic. In my opinion anyway.
