Utica, N.Y. -- A U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officer was convicted
Wednesday of twice making false entries into a cash register last year
when he collected payments from truckers entering the U.S. from Canada.
A federal court jury in Utica found Todd L. Tyo guilty of two counts of making false entries into the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol cash register last year at the point of entry in Alexandria Bay, Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Southwick said.
The jury acquitted Tyo of two other counts of making false entries into the cash register. He was also acquitted of two other charges -- theft of government funds and concealing evidence.
Tyo, 48, of Heuvelton, St. Lawrence County, was suspended in October after he was indicted on charges of stealing money that he received in his job.
